EdbMails offers an incremental (delta) migration feature for Office 365 migration, addressing the challenge of new or modified items appearing in source mailboxes during or after the initial migration. After the initial full data migration, EdbMails automatically enables incremental migration for subsequent runs. This feature scans the source mailboxes for any new or changed items that were not included in the previous migration, ensuring a complete and accurate transfer. This approach guarantees that no data is missed, providing a reliable and thorough migration process.
EdbMails performs a full data transfer during the initial migration from the source to the target server. To manage subsequent changes, EdbMails keeps certain metadata details (not the entire mailbox details) on your computer in encrypted format for incremental check. During each re-run of the migration, EdbMails scans the source mailboxes and compares the current data with the previously migrated metadata. This process identifies any new or modified items that were not included in the initial migration. By transferring only these updates, EdbMails ensures that the target environment remains fully synchronized and up-to-date, while guaranteeing that no data is missed.
Incremental migration helps avoid data duplication by tracking and only transferring new or modified items. Unlike full migrations, which might reprocess all data, incremental migration focuses on updates, thus preventing duplicate entries on the target server.
One of the primary concerns during an Office 365 migration is the risk of losing data, particularly when new emails or changes are made during the process. EdbMails incremental migration feature mitigates this risk by ensuring that every new or modified item is captured and transferred. This guarantees that no data is left behind, providing a comprehensive and secure migration experience.
Incremental migration with EdbMails significantly optimizes migration time by transferring only new or updated items during each run. By processing only the latest changes, EdbMails shortens the overall migration duration. This efficient approach ensures that your Office 365 migration is completed swiftly, while still maintaining complete data integrity.
EdbMails incremental migration feature conserves bandwidth by transferring only new or modified items, rather than reprocessing the entire dataset. This targeted approach significantly reduces network traffic and minimizes the load on your internet connection, making the migration process more efficient and cost-effective.
The default incremental migration is generally sufficient for migrating missing items and those yet to be migrated. However, 'Migrate by individually comparing each item in the target server' option compels EdbMails to compare each and every item that has already been migrated. It is important to note that enabling this option may result in a slow down of the migration operation as it involves comparing each item individually.
This option is useful if you want to re-migrate mailboxes or folders that have already been migrated, possibly after deleting their contents from the target server. Note that while incremental comparison with your earlier migration will be skipped, the re-migration process will still proceed incrementally to prevent duplicate items.
This option is useful if you have deleted source items after the initial migration and want to remove those deleted source items from the target server in the subsequent migration.
